Recycle & Redesign
2016
For this assignment, we were required to, in teams, take soley recyclable materials and transform them in a way that incorporated some feature of Interior design whether that be furniture, artwork, or other decorative items.
Design Concept: Raw Beauty
My partner and I chose the catagory of furniture as we felt it was the most functional and it would provide us with new knowledge on the requirements of creating a sucessful piece from scratch.
We created a table from recycled wooden palettes that were gathered from local grocery stores, and old books that if not recycled, would end up in a landfill. These books adorned the legs of our table to produce a stacked effect and the wooden table top was plastered with pages from the books as well.
We chose to keep the design in a raw state rather than mask the original beauty of our materials. Therefore no direct color scheme was applied to the selection of books and the wooden legs of the table were not stained to match any design preferance.
The dimensions of the finished product are

Overall this design from start to finish was unike anything I had ever done and it opened my eyes to the world of green/sustainable design.
Created in partnership with designer Molly Cuddihy
The note placed on the top of the table was found in one of the recycled books and was placed there in order to demonstrate the past lives of these items.
